Even though medications are widely used to treat high triglycerides in children, there are still cases that the high levels can be lowered through lifestyle changes. A regular exercise regimen that involves aerobic exercises for four to five days a week can be very helpful in reducing triglycerides in children who are considered sedentary.

Foods that contain higher amounts of sugar and simple carbohydrates like baked goods, candies and soft drinks can keep those triglyceride levels high.
Limit your child’s intake of foods that have high fat and sugar contents since this can help in reducing the levels of triglycerides in children, especially those who are already overweight.
One effective way in lowering triglyceride levels is to increase the level of Omega-3 fatty acids in the child’s diet. Omega-3 fatty acids are very beneficial in improving the cognitive function in children, as well as helping in reducing triglycerides and blood clots, lowering blood pressure levels and improving the body’s immune system. Omega-3 is known for reducing the risk of heart disease and cardiac deaths.
Lack of physical exercise is an additional aspect that can increase triglycerides. Lipid levels are also affected by a few conditions that include diabetes, kidney disease and hypothyroidism.
Exercise is definitely a simple but effective way to reduce high triglycerides in children. Some pediatricians will suggest some form of cardio workout for at least an hour a day, 2 -3 times per week.
